At Southern Stars Pediatric Dentistry, we understand that some children may require extra care and comfort during dental procedures. For these situations, our pediatric dentists and team use Sedadent Anesthesia Services for our in-office general anesthesia cases. This option is particularly beneficial for children with severe anxiety, special healthcare needs or those undergoing extensive dental treatments. Because every child’s needs are different, their medical history and treatment needs are reviewed carefully by our doctors and anesthesiology team. If a child’s medical history is quite complex, it may prevent us from being able to offer this service to them in our office. If this is the case, we will opt to complete treatment at Dell Children’s Medical Center.
What is General Anesthesia?
General anesthesia involves using medications to put your child into a deep sleep-like state, where they will be completely unaware of the procedure and will not feel any pain. It is administered and monitored by a qualified anesthesiologist, ensuring the highest safety standards are met.
The General Anesthesia Process
Administering general anesthesia is a carefully controlled process:
- Pre-procedure evaluation to assess your child’s health and determine the appropriateness of anesthesia.
- Administration of anesthesia in a fully equipped and safe environment.
- Continuous monitoring of your child’s vital signs throughout the procedure.
- Comprehensive post-procedure care for a smooth and comfortable recovery.
Benefits of General Anesthesia
- Complete Pain Elimination: Ensures the child feels no discomfort during the procedure.
- Ideal for Complex Procedures: Allows for extensive dental work to be done in one sitting.
- Reduces Anxiety: Completely relaxes children who are fearful of dental work.
- Safe and Controlled: Administered by experienced anesthesiologists.
- Improved Dental Health Outcomes: Enables thorough treatment without distress or movement.
